New Delhi: The Government is planning to set up an export promotion council to address issues like testing and certification of Indian systems of medicines such as Ayurveda, Siddha and Unani.
“We are discussing with Commerce Ministry to set up Ayush Export Promotion Council,” Health Minister Anbumani Ramadoss told the Rajya Sabha on Friday.
The minister also informed the House while replying to supplementaries during the Question Hour that the National Institute of Ayurveda would soon be set up in Delhi, on the lines of All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS).
Ramadoss said about 9,000 units producing drugs under Indian system of medicines have been made to comply Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP). Though some inefficiencies are there, all would be set right in due course, he said.
The Centre has increased the budget allocation for the Department of Ayurveda, Unani, Siddha and Homoeopathy (AYUSH) to over Rs 1,000 crore from about Rs 200 crore after the UPA government came to power, he said.
