Global Ayurveda Fest 2016 in Kozhikode, Kerala

Third edition of the Global Ayurveda Festival & Arogya Expo (GAF), the largest biennial get together of the Ayurveda fraternity in the State of Kerala will be held from 29th January to 2nd February 2016 at Kozhikode, Kerala. Manifold stakeholders of Ayurveda, including Practitioners and Students, Manufacturers, Hospitals and Medicinal plant growers, Government and Non Government agencies working in the sector, various service organizations and civil society organizations will partner in this mega event, coming for the first time to Kozhikode, the land of Zamorins. Global Ayurveda Festival & Arogya ExpoThe largest biennial event on Ayurveda held in the country, GAF is organized by the Centre for Innovation in Science & Social Action (CISSA), in association with the Government of Kerala, native Ayurveda fraternity and the Dept of AYUSH, Government of India. Co-organizers include Ayurveda Medial Association of India (AMAI), Ayurveda Hospital Management Association (AHMA), Ayurvedic Medicine Manufacturers’ Organization of India (AMMOI), Ayurveda Drug Manufacturers Association (ADMA) and Kerala State Indian System of Medicine Self-financing Management Association (KISMA). State Department of AYUSH, Department of Tourism and the Department of Industry are also partnering with GAF in a big way. The state AYUSH Department has appointed a Nodal Officer, for the effective coordination of the event, whereas the Department of Industries has instructed its PSUs to be part of the Fest.

GAF is positioned as the destination festival on Ayurveda in Kerala to bridge the great native medicinal tradition with the global community that remains curious to gather knowledge, care, products and collaborations from India. Both the preceding conferences – organized at Trivandrum in 2012 and in Cochin in 2014- have grown into an internationally recognized event on Ayurveda, highlighting the contribution of Kerala in this field. Delegates’ participation shows consistent growth from, 1800 delegates in 2012 to over 4,000 participants in 2014. Mr. Raj Keswur Purryag, President of Mauritius was the Guest of Honor at GAF 2014, with delegates attending from 21 countries across 7 continents. MoUs between India and other countries on Ayurveda is a common feature of the Festival, with GAF 2014 alone paving way for signing of MoUs with eight countries, for bilateral cooperation in trade and industry related with Ayurveda. On the same lines, but the GAF 2016 is planned to be a bigger and better event this time around and will have a host of activities displaying the grandeur of Ayurveda. Some attractions during GAF 2016 include an International Seminar on the theme “Women’s Health”, a mega exhibition of 500 stalls in which Ayurveda Hospitals, Drug manufacturing industry and various Government and non Government agencies showcase their services and products. Solidarity meets, live treatment clinics, workshops and the like will be other attractions.

An International Business Meet with official delegations from many countries attending the event will witness an assemblage of 5000 delegates from 50 coutnries. GAF 2016 will have fortnight-long prelude, “Grand Kerala Ayurveda Fair” in 14 districts of Kerala on fourteen days during 15-28 January 2016; ensuring participation of every local Ayurveda institution from all the districts of Kerala. The Kerala leg will show case the best options to the seekers of State’s might in Ayurveda. There will be programs like Road shows, exhibition of local health traditions, medical camps focusing on women’s health, public awareness programs, seminars, workshops and Medicinal tree planting programmes. Such an event is the first of its kind – in coverage, representation and participation. An important highlight of the GAF 2016 is the International Seminar & the buyer-seller meet. Ayurveda, with its global presence offers a large business opportunity that remains untapped fully. A number of organizations from USA, Germany, Italy, UK, Malaysia, Sri Lanka, Singapore, Brazil, Argentina, Russia etc are expected to participate in GAF 2016. With the Government of Kerala being an active partner of the event, the proposals emerging during GAF 2016 shall be crystallized into viable business opportunities. This time, already consented to be partners are international organizations like AAPNA, AASEA Manila, Indo Swiss Ayurveda Foundation, Agneya Argentina, Ayurvida Chile, Malaysian Association of Traditional Indian Medicine, Ayurveda Practitioners Association Singapore, Sri Lankan Traditional Medicine Preservation Foundation, and Maldivian Traditional Medicine Practitioner Association.
