Promote Ayurvedic science abroad: Nepal
The three-day ‘Ayur Expo 2007’, organised by Nepal Ayurveda Medical Students Council (NAMSS), started Friday at Tribhuwan University (TU).
Minister for Education and Sports Pradip Nepal inaugurated the exhibition and he said that the teachers and students of Ayurvedic science students should popularise the subject abroad. He said the Ayurvedic science has been ignored.
“In the Kathmandu area alone, there are 216 types of medicinal herbs and they are often overlooked,” he added.
Prof. Ramesh Kanta Adhikari, dean of the Institute of Medicine (IOM), said that the Bachelors in Ayurveda Medical Science (BAMS) had not yet given recognition by the Medical Council, so the students who have graduated after five-and-a-half year course are now facing problems in their career.
Adhikari said TU alone cannot help in the recognition of Ayurveda degree. “For this the National Planning Commission, Health Ministry and Education Ministry should also lend their hands.”
Chief at the Ayurveda Campus Dr. Dhaniklal Bharkher said that they were worried about the students who are studying BAMS. “We would soon be holding a SAARC-level meeting to make the degree recognised in the SAARC region,” he added.
“The Expo was organised to make people aware about different kind of medicinal herbs in Nepal” Dr. Dinesh Gyawali, who has just completed BAMS, said.
Some attractions of the expo include free health camp, herbal products display, documentaries show, awareness programs, herbarium display, heath tips. Besides, there is also daily Yoga camp in the afternoon. There will also be free health camp on Saturday where the patients will also be distributed medicines free of cost.
